Introduction
We take life for granted at times, and we are not prepared for a health challenge. Life was going along just fine, and then something happened. If that is you, the book you are about to read will provide some insights, and helps to bring you through this time.
Whether it be a stroke, heart attack, accident, or other health related challenge you are facing, read on and gain some valuable tools in the process of regaining your health. This book is in no way meant to offer medical advice, nor am I a doctor, but a helpful resource guide in what has worked for others and worked for myself.
What I need you to do is become your own patient advocate. You have to become a fighter to get well. Learn about your condition. Research everything. Question everything. What I need you to do is get to know your body very well. Learn what works for you and what does not. Learn how to listen to your body and what it is revealing to you.
My journey through Overcoming a Health Crisis is an inspiring story of going about my business in various nations, being surprised by a parasite, followed by debilitating strokes, the shock of becoming very ill and the journey back to health.
This book is for those individuals’ suffering illnesses of all kinds without help needed to get well. Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”
For several years as ministry opportunities presented themselves in various nations around the world, I taught on the amazing power of the tongue.
Proverbs 18:21 says, “Life and death is in the power of the tongue.”
How powerful are the words that proceed out of your mouth? Something begins to happen when our mindset changes, subsequently changing our words.
You have heard it said:
Let the poor Say, “I am rich.”
Let the weak Say, “I am strong.”
Let the sick Say, “I am well.”
Real change begins to happen from your inner core once you hear a word of hope, and then it proceeds out of your mouth. It is important to say it aloud. Say it out loud with me.
“I am going to make it.
I am going to be fully restored.
I am being healed.”
God’s Words have power. It is not just a good book, but one of promise, hope, deliverance, and healing. God’s Word is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
God’s Word does not change. God is not mad at you. God is simply testing you, allowing you to go through this test of health to teach you, and develop you in gaining wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to be more effective in this life’s journey that is yet to unfold. Many of us have had to endure the trials of life, in poverty, health issues, wealth, or abandonment.
Now, will everyone who reads this book have the same results of healing and regain health? I sincerely hope so, but there may be some who encounter different results. There is something so powerful that happens when words are released into the air. Let me give more substance here. If it is true that our creator spoke this world into existence by the power of His words, then words carry weight, authority, and power, right? Let’s get even more basic.
What happens for example when an idea for a new product or invention comes into the mind? The inventor wrestles with the thought of the new concept, and begins to think it through. An invention has its being the moment it is spoken out into the air. I know you would argue that is not true, but the fact is once it has been thought out in the mind, very soon the mouth will speak it out into the air. This happened to me on more than one occasion.
An invention not acted upon is only a good idea and is available to whomever will hear it, or perceive it, process it, and of course act upon it. A few times an invention came to me, I spoke it into the air, but because I did not know or comprehend the process of copyright or the “how to” bring the product about, someone else developed it. Of course, as you might imagine, a short time later, there is that product I had thought of in stores.
That was a real breakthrough for me, and possibly it will be a breakthrough for you as well. After the more severe stroke in 2009 there was still no explanation as to why this all occurred other than blood pressure, and knowing there was a parasite present. I knew God was not finished with me yet. I recall going for a mile walk around the block where we lived, knowing that movement helps blood pressure. As I walked, my arm hung limp by my side and I dragged my right leg and foot, I was quickened with the words of the bible, “I am healed.”
So many people have been encouraged by speaking to their circumstance with a new declaration.
The doctor may say, “Well you will not recover from this.”
Or he may say, “This is permanent.”
I am here to tell you that the power of words can change your circumstances.
Your words are like a prophetic declaration. A prophetic declaration is announcing something into your “now” situation that may be a part of your destiny far off in the future but by declaring into the now creates something new. A seed.
My first thought when I said, “I am healed” was, “Yeah...Right!
I was becoming so negative and cynical that I didn’t believe the words that just came out of my mouth. By making a declaration of what you do not see at the present time does not make it real, however the seed got planted. What do we know about a seed? Once it is planted and watered the seed will grow. Think about a young person who has a mold-able pliable mind for example.
When that person thinks there is an opportunity to, let’s say, attend a certain college, they light up, and then they respond out loud by saying, “I am going to that school, and I will be a scientist, or whatever”.
What follows declaration is investigation. Is it just waiting for the world to turn and opportunity to present itself? No! Something triggers the brain to do something. Like possibly start planning and researching even investigating. Make a plan of action. Maybe even contact that school to obtain an application. What follows the declaration is investigation. How to.
What are the parameters involved? Are you following me? Especially for stroke survivors, we must seek and be open to opportunities where we have not looked before, possible help, different traditional and nontraditional types of doctors and natural methods, diet change, jobs, etc., whether they are there or not.
Being a minister, I have seen miracles that cannot be explained in the natural. Let me tell you one example:
I prayed over a woman in Africa who was a cripple for many years, and couldn’t walk. It appeared to me like she might was suffering from Polio as I saw her legs were visibly shriveled.
However, when I prayed for her, this woman began to scream and shout to the point of ear-piercing shrieks of joy. I witnessed her limbs becoming straight and strong. She threw down her crutches, jumped up, and began to dance and run around letting out the loudest shriek I had ever heard. She was shouting and running around the auditorium, “I am healed! I am healed!”
Many people who knew her verified that for many years she was unable to walk. Doctors told her she would never walk again.
Looking back at a time when feeling sorry for myself, I thought, “Why can’t I get my own miracle like that?”
←ↈ→
I mean, I have prayed for people all over the world, and seen miraculous healing occur. What I have learned over these past many years is that sometimes we experience the miracle and sometimes it is a much longer process of walking out the healing. The miracle of healing and restoration is amazing.
I pray for you reading this, that you get your miracle just as the woman in Africa did. In the event the miracle does not immediately manifest, know that I am praying for you to regain your health through the methods you learn and hear from this book in addition to the encouragement, wisdom and knowledge you receive from others.
Once the mindset of speaking things that are not as though they were, from my lips daily, I began to feel some hope. I placed my life completely in God’s control which I previously thought I had. Additionally, “Was God desiring me to do my part?”
I felt my part was to research and study all I could about my affliction, change my mindset, and my terminology.
Yes, I believe He was.

Seek out information, search the internet, find the specialists, learn about brain health and brain restoration. When you endure a stroke, it can be like a medical death sentence. I had to determine in my mind, that is just not true.
Have you ever noticed when a very deep desire of the heart is acknowledged that you begin to act upon that desire? Or you could say move towards it by researching it, studying it, and for me, inquire of it.
Part of the process of recovery and overcoming is acknowledging that there is a problem, one that I had no control of. So, what now? Do I just quit? Lay down and die?
Ask yourself, “What are some of the deepest desires of my heart before I became afflicted?”
In moving toward life’s goals and aspirations, what did you do as your part to move towards those? Did you get an education, or start a business? Did you try to find people who were already doing the things that you desired to do? Since becoming afflicted with your physical trial, have those desires changed?
The point I am trying to make is that thoughts give way to words. Once things become verbal, a corresponding action takes place causing one a desire to begin to act upon what is deep in their heart.
Have you ever asked the question, “What is my life all about? What’s my purpose? What’s my destiny?”
Understand that life is a journey, and it requires all experiences in this life to complete the journey. To give a real-life example of what I am talking about, many years ago I had a dream about Russian people. This dream was very detailed.
When I woke up, I thought, “That was so strange because I didn’t know any Russian people.”
However, from that moment on for about a year, I researched about Russia, watched as much as I could about Russia and the people there on the internet. I found myself praying for Russian people and didn’t know why.
In 1998 the pastor of my church was invited to go to Russia, and invited me to go with him. I did not give him an immediate answer whether I would go because I knew at the time, I could not afford it.
A few weeks after this, as I was on a bus to Los Angeles to the Promise Keepers event and the man sitting next to me leaned over and said, “I hear you have an opportunity to go to Russia. Are you going to go?”
Up to that moment I had not pictured myself going there. The Russian people had been in my dreams, in my prayers, and on my mind constantly. When he spoke, everything seemed to stop, it was like the whole earth had stopped and waited for me to give an answer. It was the weirdest sensation as something began rising up inside of me, unlike I had felt before, and then I spoke. “Yes sir. I am going.”
Immediately, the man responded, “Well, that’s great. Would I be able to give you a thousand dollars to help you go?”
I stuttered and responded, “Well, yes I suppose you can.”
←ↈ→
Sometimes it takes stepping out in faith to decide to follow the unknown.
Several people in the following few weeks wanted to also give money to me to help me go. I am so thankful for their generosity, and enabling me to go to Russia, and it literally changed my life. I have since returned to Russia many times and met some of the most wonderful people, and had some absolutely amazing times there.
I returned to America weeping because of trusting a dream that became real. This same principle applies to healing, wholeness, restoration and destiny.
See it, believe it, trust it, and somehow and in some way begin to act on it.
It is very important to choose our words carefully. We tend to be funny in our words, or cute, but our words can come back with less than desired results. I have seen this on more than one occasion.
I invite you to read through the book of Proverbs in the Bible and see the many times references to words are used. I did a Bible study concerning words, and it surprised me.
←ↈ→
I ask you to look for the following references just in the book of Proverbs alone: speak, say, tongue, mouth, and lips. It may surprise you how many times these references are used and to what end.
Proverbs 6:2 You are snared by the words of your mouth, you are taken by the words of your mouth.
Proverbs 10:11 The mouth of the righteous is a well of life.
Proverbs 10:13 Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has understanding.
Proverbs 12:14 A man will be satisfied by the fruit of his mouth.
Proverbs 12:18-19 There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health. The truthful lip shall be established forever.
Proverbs 13:2 A man shall eat well by the fruit of his mouth.
Proverbs 15:4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life.
Proverbs 16:23-24 The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, and adds learning to his lips. Pleasant words are like honeycomb. Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.
Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat its fruit.
As you can see from these examples, words carry weight, and power.
Examine yourself, as to what kind of words you are speaking toward others and especially over your own life. Are your words filled with negativity?
Words like, “I will never get well” and words like “This type of thing always happens to me.”
I have taught in various places all over the earth for believers to be very aware and careful what proceeds out of “their mouth”. The mouth is the most powerful weapon, it is also one of the greatest defenses. With it we can destroy, or we can build up. With our mouth we can see dreams come to reality, or we can crush those dreams with our negative lips. It goes even deeper than this. For the bible also says in Luke.
Luke 6:45 “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.”
So even as you contemplate in your mind or your internal being, the mouth will utter. Begin a new regiment today in your life. Speak only words that build up and do not tear down. Begin by saying something that today may not seem true, like, “I am well”.
You will begin to notice speaking words that build up, even though you may not be feeling well today, you will begin to notice your attitude is changing. As your attitude changes, the toxic negativity changes. It begins to expel from the body. Will this happen in a day? No. It will take time.
Some of the most powerful words I have discovered that leave my lips are I Am.
“I am.”
Every few days, I have a regiment of things I say out loud and to myself, and you should try it in your life to watch the difference in your countenance, in your attitude, and see if there is a new joy that begins to come over you.
Things such as:
“I am well. I am caring. I am prosperous. I am successful. I am healthy, wealthy and wise. I am happy.”
These are just examples, but you will get the idea.
Compare this to what you have been speaking for years gone by.
Try it and see if this will make a difference in your life. Write the new terminology down, so as not to forget. Have you noticed how difficult it is to spend time with toxic people, I mean verbally toxic people? It seems like no matter what comes out of their mouth, it is very toxic and negative. All you desire to do is get away from them.
Make it a point even while you are going through this difficult life trial, to speak things that others are drawn to. Positive people are energetic, and enjoyable to be around. Find the good and speak it. Learn to be thankful in all situations.
Find uplifting music. Music is healing especially because it relaxes you, and also imprints positive thoughts into the mind.
Declare “I Am” out loud to your situation and see the effects on your mind, will and emotions. It may not happen in a day however over time you will notice a positive change happening in your life. I suggest you start a notebook of the new things that you will declare over your life. You must speak to yourself. Write these things down.
Things like, “I am getting well day by day, I am encouraged by how far I have come.”
You will get the idea. Write down the progress and the disappointments. It will be good to write down everything you are experiencing, so as to look back in a year or two to see how far you have come.
Speak to those disappointments, and declare them temporary, and that they cannot remain.
There is a lot to say on the matter once you get sick and tired of being sick and tired. Something deep within cries out, “I am going to be healed, restored, delivered and set free from these temporary afflictions. I shall live life again to the fullest.”
These self-affirmations may well set the tone for who has the final say in your life. Determine in your mind that doctors do not have the final say in your life, but you and God do!
After all God created you, and He allowed you to walk through this trial, for His Glory. What?
Yes, God’s purpose is bringing many sons to Glory. Trust Him with your life. I mean, you are still here on earth, right?
→ For You ←
Think about this:
There must be more to this life than what I am currently seeing or experiencing. Don’t entertain death. Do not entertain the I- give- up attitude.
If you do entertain these negative mindsets, then you have fully given yourself to the voices in your head saying, “It is so. So, just give up.”
If you still have a pulse in your body, then there is still a hope for restoration. Check yourself.
Do you still have a pulse?
←ↈ→
We must get on the same wavelength as God if you will. At the very least we must learn how to communicate with God or how God communicates with His people. Remember, He is the God who gives life to the dead and calls those things from that which does not exist as though they did.
That is from Romans 4:17. That scripture has become one of my life application scriptures. Out of nothingness, God created everything. To God, nothing is everything, and little is much.
Do you recall the story of Jesus feeding the 5000, which was more like 15,000 considering women and children?
The story is found in Mathew 14:13-21. When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said,“This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.” Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat. We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered. “Bring them here to me,” He said. And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and when the huge meal was finished, the disciples picked up twelve baskets full of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.) Now that is wonder working power.
I am a believer in the power of God’s word; His multiplying, restoration and healing power. I have seen this principle work in my life many times as my spoken words aligned with His Divine Nature.
I am reminded of a time we did a Thanksgiving outreach years ago, and we were set up to feed approximately a thousand people. On the way into town, the local radio station had caught wind of our efforts as a Church and we listened to the interview that our outreach was running short of potatoes. So, we found a grocery store that was open, stopped in and bought two boxes of instant mashed potatoes.
We brought them to the area where the feed was taking place, whipped them up and placed them into the stainless serving tray where they could be served.
Later, that same day as the number of people being fed was overwhelming to me, what caught my eye was the potato vat was still full.
I went over and asked the woman serving, “Has anyone else brought potatoes?”
She replied, “No. You were the only ones who brought potatoes.”
What was amazing to me, is she said, “It’s kind of weird. Every time I dip the spoon into the tray to dish out the potatoes, it is like... there is more.”
Truly the food was multiplying.
On a day when we thought we could feed a thousand people, we fed over three thousand! We were actually keeping track of how many people came through. There was so much food left over, we tried giving some away over the next few days, until we had to throw the rest of it away. We had no idea how many people were going to require food that day, but I believe with all that is within me, God knew.
I know with all confidence, that my God is able.

It leads me to ask the question. My friend, allow your faith to arise and be strengthened. Are you just an accident, a happenstance, a mistake, or were you created as the handiwork of a Divine Being who is incapable of mistake? I ask of you. Be of this mindset.
Say to yourself, “I am a masterpiece of the Master’s hand.”
Once this mindset begins to become part of your nature, you will start rejoicing. Declare to yourself, “I am not a mistake.”
God is incapable of making mistakes. However, when I get to heaven, I feel the need to ask God a few questions. What was the purpose of mosquitoes?
Sorry, let’s move on.
Once equipped with this mindset, we also can begin to proclaim just as our Creator does.
“Let the dead live again!”
This declaration can be regarding brain cells, limp arms or legs or even restoration in your body. Just like Jesus when He said to Lazarus.
Lazarus was dead for three days and might have been smelling a bit ripe by that time.
The Lord God spoke to him, and said,” Lazarus, come forth”. Lazarus was resurrected from the dead and lived again.
Here is the story from the book of John 11:38-41: Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead for four days.” Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.”
In all the areas we have been talking about, as you find yourself going through a health crisis or health challenge, the very best place I recommend to start is prayer. You cannot go through a health challenge by yourself, you need an advocate. Whether you believe in God or not, I ask you to start there. Ask Him questions, like Why? Why do you want me to go through this distress? What is your plan in this? How will you be glorified by me enduring this challenge?
We often think that God may be mad at us for things of the past, or we somehow let God down. We have a tendency to think it was somehow our sins catching up to us in God’s judgment. Let me say this to you, God is not mad at you. God loves you. That was the whole purpose of the cross, and Jesus dying on the cross. If you think you are guilty of not pleasing God by your life, simply ask Him to forgive you and receive His loving forgiveness. God is pleased with you.
It was God who created you. God delights Himself over you with singing. (Zephaniah 3:17) Wow! Can you imagine that? God singing over you with joy? He created you with a plan in mind for your life and you could never return to him void. God spoke a word and you had and have your being.
Isaiah 55:11 which says “So are the words of my mouth, It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it”. Receive this word. You are literally a spoken word out of the mouth of our Heavenly Father. Receive healing. Remember your test is now becoming your testimony. If you will allow me to pray for you, just say, “yes.” Even read the following prayer aloud.
Father God in Heaven, I lift up my friend who is going through a major trial in their life. Today, bring peace to them, let your loving arms embrace my friend and touch them with your loving touch. Your anointing breaks every yoke in their life. I declare healing and restoration in my friend’s life. From this day forward, let there be a forward momentum of progress, strength, deliverance, healing in their physical body, and a renewed mind. God, I ask you to replace the “woe is me” mentality with a mind of “yes I can” be healed of this infirmity.
Father God, let my friend know you have neither left them or forsaken them, (Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you) God is bringing you through with a greater sense of who you are and the abilities you have to heal and restore, but also, letting my friend know that it is ok to go through this trial. Let my friend know that you are not angry with them nor disappointed with them, but you love them so much that you know what they are capable of handling.
1st Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it)
My friend, I want you to know that God knew you before there was a heaven and an earth, He knew you by name.
Yes, let my friend know that You, O God; You know our beginnings and our endings, and everything in between; I mean everything is within Your control and nothing surprises You, O God.
This trial you are going through my friend is not a surprise to God since He knows the beginning and the ending of all things. Help my friend O God to learn to give thanks in every situation, for the pulse that is still working within their body to every breath my friend breathes.
It is all a miracle God; and I am very thankful for everything You have done and presently are doing in my friend’s life. Yes, even the trials I have walked through. They are growing me, and developing me to a deeper relationship with You, God.
I do pray for a miracle in your life my dear friend, for I have seen the lame walk again, the deaf hear again, and I pray for that same miracle of healing power in your life.
However, if the miracle does not come in an instant, don’t read anything into it, just know that God is always about rebuilding, restoring, healing, and showing Himself God in unusual ways where He would get all the glory for what He has done in your life. I pray all these things for you in Jesus’ name, amen. If this prayer was helpful to you, read it over and over. Place your hand on this book and say, “amen God, let it be so in Jesus’ name, and amen.”
Going through these life challenges we must learn to be thankful in all things. Rejoice in the life you have been given and give thanks. Not only in the good, but also in everything else as well. Simply put, this is God’s will concerning you.
(1st Thessalonians 5:18 In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you) So my friend, give thanks in the tests, trials and difficulties. Give thanks for the good, and give thanks when the situation appears impossible. Give thanks in adversity and discomfort.
